YOUR MAGICAL SERVANT, DAN, DAN THE MAGIC MAN
DAN BAREFOOT is Tar Heel born and bred, having made his appearance into this world in Charlotte on March 18, 1951. He attended public schools in Gaston and Catawba counties. A 1973 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of North Carolina, Dan subsequently graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1976 with a Juris Doctor degree.
Dan is a writer and historian. He is the award-winning author of 12 books including, General Robert F. Hoke: Lee's Modest Warrior; North Carolina's Haunted Hundred; Traveling The Backroads of North Carolina's Coast; and Spirits of '76. In 1998, he was named North Carolina Historian of the Year by the North Carolina Society of Historians. He has been elected to the North Caroliniana Society.
Since 1993, Dan has served as a member of the USS North Carolina Battleship Commission, having first been appointed by Governor Hunt. From 1998-2002, Dan served three terms in the North Carolina House of Representatives, representing the citizens of Gaston and Lincoln counties in the old 44th District.
As a professional magician, DAN, DAN, THE MAGIC MAN is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians and the Society of American Magicians, whose former president was none other than Harry Houdini. He proudly bills himself as "The Original Purveyor of North Carolina Magic" because of his unique specialization in tricks and illusions related to the history and heritage of North Carolina.
Dan has been married to Kay, his lovely assistant, since 1974. They are the proud parents of Kristie, a high school English teacher in Charlotte.
